Hair

8x8”, digital painting
“Symbolic of life, hair bolts from our head. Like the earth, it can be harvested, but it will rise again.” - Diane Ackerman, A natural history of the senses.
Hair comes in many textures and forms. The most versatile of them all to exist is kinky, curly hair textures. Throughout the span of history, ours can be weaved and molded into whatever form the owner may wish. In different cultures hair carries a heavy symbolic significance, and within some, people are forced to disown it, but whatever may happen the kinks and curls keep coming back into fruition. This can be seen demonstrated by the bright colors of nature surrounding and bouncing off of the individual. The cracks and destructive textures visible represent the regrowth that occurs even through disowning ones crown. Emphasis is put on the versatility of the individuals hair by colorful flowers.
